About this archive

The Method

According to Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Wally Wood, and other top writer-artists, "the Marvel Method" was a method for stealing writing pay. The Marvel Method discussion group is an online discussion forum that examines the claim. We discuss original documents and eye witness statements. The discussion began in fanzines, progressed to list servers and the Kirby Museum, and from mid 2016 was primarily hosted on Facebook.

The archive

List servers can disappear, and Facebook threads can be difficult to search from outside. So in December 2018 Mark Mayerson suggested we create some kind of external archive. Michael Hill did the heavy lifting, collecting past discussions and images. I then put them online, with the following light editing:
  1. Titling: Threads are given a title. Some very long threads are given sub-headings.
  2. Numbering: Titles are subject to change, so threads are given arbitrary numbers forconvenience. o see thread numbers, right click (or control-click) the index page, then choose "view source".
  3. Cutting: No words are changed, but some threads (or sub-threads) are omitted if they add nothing new.
  4. Grouping: Threads are grouped by topic. Topic names, like thread names and subtitled, are only for convenience and are subject to change.
  5. Merging: Occasionally similar threads are merged. A new line showing a new date means a new thread.
  6. Splitting: If a thread covers two widely different topics it may become two separate pages.
  7. Styling: If a key idea is easy to miss then it may be put in bold [or an "editor's note" may be added in italics].
This archive contains every post up to the end of May 2017, and just highlights thereafter. Thanks for reading. - Chris Tolworthy
