Buscema wrote a training course, then Lee took the credit J David Spurlock 16 September 2016 Stan from How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way John is really writing... "based on the highly successful course he teaches." What Stan refers to here as "writing" is Stan's stylized banter -- not the bulk of the book which is the nuts and bolts of doing art. John told me he was originally going to do the book on his own but happened to mention it to Stan who guest spoke at one of John's classes. Stan said if he chipped in, he thought he could get a big publisher to take the book, and he did. Chris Tolworthy: "I would do the writing and sneakily steal a disproportionate share of the credit, as is my wont" As this is based on Buscema's existing course then this is a classic example of the artist writing, and Stan Lee re-writes it then takes credit.
