When did Lee start taking writing money?

When Kirby began selling stories to Marvel in 1956 it is likely Kirby was being paid for writing. Kirby is widely credited as not only penciling and inking the Yellow Claw and Lone Rider stories, but also writing them.
Recently I've been thinking that as late as 1960 0r 1961 Kirby may still have been being paid for writing.
There is a quote from the Gary Groth interview with Kirby which suggests that at some point Lee demanded the writing money which had been going to Kirby.
KIRBY: "Slowly management suddenly realized I was making money. I say “management, ” but I mean an individual. I was making more money than he was, OK? It’s an individual. And so he says, “Well, you know…” And the old phrase is born. “Screw you. I get mine.” OK? And so I had to render to Caesar what he considered Caesar’s. And there was a man who never wrote a line in his life — he could hardly spell — you know, taking credit for the writing."
