Martin Goodman as Colonel Mockingbird (Funky Flashman's employer)

"Mockingbirds are a group of New World passerine birds from the Mimidae family. They are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds and the sounds of insects and amphibians,[1] often loudly and in rapid succession."
"Goodman's business strategy involved following a variety of genres as the market seemed to trend, such as romance in 1948, horror in 1951, Westerns in 1955 and Kaiju monsters in 1958. He could be highly derivative In this regard, such as ordering the title character of Patsy Walker, America's #1 Teenager to have similar crosshatching in her hair as that of Archie Comics' popular Archie Andrews. " --Van Lente, Fred; Dunlavey, Ryan (2012). The Comic Book History of Comics. IDW. pp. 102–103.
Tim Bateman I read somewhere that Goodman was actually fond of westerns, so that may have been personal preference - he started out with western pulp magazines.
I think this was the Blake Bell/Mike Vassallo volume; if not, the similar book which came out at around the same time.
Tim Bateman Mind you.... from my imagination:
Interviewer: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you like Westerns?
Goodman: Oh, at least 8, more likely 9.
Interviewer: And using the same scale, how much do you like making money?
Goodman: Can I put the Westerns down to 1?
