A lost 1965 Stan Lee interview
Patrick Ford
8 August 2016
Marvel comics cover-dated April 1966 contain a notice on the bulletins
page that in early October of 1965 Stan Lee was interviewed by Tony
Marvin on Mutual Radio's "The World Today" program.
This would place the interview taking place shortly before Steve Ditko
sold his last story to Marvel in Nov. of 1965.
Patrick Ford Also a three hour interview again from 1965. This one
done for Gabfest a program broadcast by Columbia University (WKCR).
Dave Rawlins Maybe a tape of the broadcast survives. I wonder if Kirby
or Ditko caught the program when it aired.
Patrick Ford The fact it was rebroadcast suggests a tape existed and
may still exist.
J David Spurlock what was that interview around then where Stan says
Steve thinks he is a genius and wants total control and Stan would
give him some room until sales dropped then he might have to let him
go
Michael Hill:
J David Spurlock Slight chance Oct '65 could include mention of
Wood/Daredevil as well as Ditko. Would love for Stan Lee interviewed
by Tony Marvin on Mutual Radio's "The World Today" program to show up.
A MOST interesting period contrasting Marvel's growing success with
the top talents Kirby, Ditko & Wood all upset with Lee over writing
credit.
Patrick Ford There is also from 1965 a three hour interview with Jim
Sanders on Columbia University's (WKCR) "Gabfest" .
Patrick Ford Columbia University may have the three hour interview in
their archive.

Patrick Ford Mutual Radio might possibly have a copy of the Tony
Marvin interview with Lee in their archives. They do have an archive
of old programs and a few (not the Lee interview) are online.

Patrick Ford Might. Not does.
Patrick Ford Incidentally Marc Toberoff is a graduate of Columbia
University. Perhaps that might assist Toberoff if he or the Kirby's
had an interest in hearing the tape of the Gabfest broadcast.
