Kirby explained the stories to Lee

Heritage Auction Gallery is listing three pages from X-MEN #2 which are set to be auctioned off on April 28.
There are a number of interesting things about these pages.
1. X-MEN #2 was complete and in the Marvel warehouse as late as 1980. It has been reported that it was among the artwork stolen from the Marvel office in March of 1982.
2. The pages are not trimmed and contain substantial border notes by Stan Lee. As Lee was not supplying pages of art board to Kirby with notes written in the borders of an otherwise empty page the notes suggest that Lee was taking dictation from Kirby so that Lee would be able to better recall the story points.

Jack Kirby and Chic Stone Journey Into Mystery #103, "Tales of Asgard" "Thor's Mission to Mirmir".
Here's another page from the time period where Kirby would meet with Lee and explain the story to Lee rather than writing down story notes in the border. On these early pages the notes are written down by Lee almost certainly like a student taking notes as Kirby explains the key points to Lee. There is one unusual thing about this page. If you look at the bottom left hand side there is a note from Kirby. Kirby has written down the names, Aske and Embla. probably because he was concerned Lee would misspell them.
