Kirby must have plotted the Ego story (because Lee told him to write something different the next issue)

Mark Evanier was asked about the Thor story featuring Ego the Living Planet. A fan felt the story seemed to be cut off suddenly.
Q: What's the story (if any) behind the first Thor-Ego story in Thor #133. It seems pretty clear Stan simply and abruptly ended the story with some quick dialogue just as it was building. was there some dispute in the story direction? Perhaps Jack wanted to make it a multi-part saga?
ME: Yes, he did. Stan didn't like the story that was evolving and told him to change gears quickly.
Michael Hill: It's a thin disguise.
Patrick Ford: No doubt the reason that Lee ordered the retouching.
Mark Ricard: I wonder if Ego was influenced by Van Vogt's short story Silkies in Space.
Patrick Ford: Certainly a possibility.
Patrick Ford: The fan who asked Evanier about it felt the story was cut off. Evanier confirmed the story line was supposed to run more than just one issue.
Patrick Ford: EVANIER: "ME: Yes, he did. Stan didn't like the story that was evolving and told him (Kirby) to change gears quickly."
