Who plotted the first two Spider-Man stories? Patrick Ford 10 October 2016 Roy Thomas from an interview published in THE COMICS JOURNAL #61 (Winter 1981). RAWHIDE KID #21, 1961. Kirby inked by Richard Ayers. This is a good example of Kirby tendency to break stories down into chapters. Stories broken down into chapters are seen frequently in Kirby's work. It seems Kirby began using the chapter breaks on BULLSEYE in 1954. With the exception of the first two Spider-Man stories (AF #15 and ASM #1) there are no stories published by Marvel from 1958 through the early '60s. These chapter breaks are common even on stories supposedly written full script by Larry Lieber. Note the page is signed "By Stan Lee." Patrick Ford Incidentally. isn't it curious that the only two non-Kirby stories to have chapter breaks are the first two Spider-Man stories? A number of people, including Stan Taylor, have pointed out how the sequence in ASM #1 where Spider-Man leaps from a military jet to a space capsule reentering Earth's atmosphere, is the sort of highly unbelievable "science" which Kirby was unconcerned with giving a try. In one of his essays Ditko complained about the sequence saying it was beyond the ability of the teenage hero and would have been better suited to Thor.
