A god is a priest who represents a particular power, such as "the sky" (Anu) or "the sun" (Shamash) or "love and war" (Ishtar). The priest speaks on behalf of the god. So talking to the priest means talking to the god.

Priests make people work together. So people can survive the forces of nature: famine, flood, etc. So the priests control nature.

Priests are not always right. A critic can often find a better way. But critics often pull in opposite directions. So priests still often win.

I think that's enough theory. It's time to act! It's time to Find Enkidu, the man chosen by the gods to defeat Gilgamesh! Or should I do something else?
